Well my busy, stressful and rewarding summer is continuing at light speed throughout July and I can scarcely believe that August has crept up on my so quickly. It feels like I’ve been to every corner of London this month, meeting some incredible artists, inspiring musicians and continually-impressive students.

Celebrities…

Natalie Cassidy, who most of you will know as the actress behind the iconic Sonia Fowler from EastEnders, found time to come into the studio this month. Along with her acting skills, she’s also an up-and-coming house artist and we’ve been collaborating on a release that should be working its way through the channels soon. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for that one!

Students…

I continue to maintain my 100% ABRSM pass rate through saxophone tuition. Whilst I’d love to take credit as the finest music teacher in the south-east, the plaudits really have to go to my outstanding students who are all talented saxophonists by now. Phil earned himself a Merit in his Grade 4 Jazz Sax, Sarah a Merit in her Grade 2, Rachel a Distinction in her Grade 4 and Brett with a big Distinction on his Grade 5. A big congratulations to all 4 of my students who took their exams and good luck to those expecting them soon.

Competitions…

I’ve been overwhelmed with the outstanding reaction to the Jamie Johnson Remix that I ran last month. I received a huge amount of submissions and the winner, EssBeeDee, was so impressive that we ended up doing an ‘Artist Collab’ on Bright Lights. The fully produced and promoted track that EssBeeDee won (Brendan Mills vs. EssBeeDee Lovin’ me feat. Jamie Johnson) is currently spinning in the mastering house. Watch out for a worldwide digital release this summer, new school garage fans have a lot to be excited about. And it wouldn’t be a Brendan Mills release without some House thrown in either.

Gigs…

Summer is manic for gigs and I’ve managed to work myself into the preferred supplier list of one of the ‘Financial Big Four’ – not bad! I played the Opening Ball for Wimbledon at the Dorchester with Totem and I’m looking forward to some gigs booked in Fuerteventura and Tarifa.

Recording…

And finally, the success of my E.P has been a surprise and a thrill. I worked hard enough to think that I deserve to get some plaudits, but it’s not often that you get Victor Simonelli and Mark Knight singing your praises…!
